Baku – APA. The former head of the Ministry of interior of Tajikistan Yakub Salimov, who has served 13-year sentence for treason, was released, according to the Tajik media.Â

Salimov during the civil war of 1992-1997 was one of the leaders of the popular front of the Republic, who fought on the side of the United Tajik opposition. According to law enforcement agencies of Tajikistan from 1993 to 1995 Salimov at the head of the interior Ministry have committed many violations and abuse of official position. He was arrested in Russia in 2003 at the request of the Tajik side and extradited to Dushanbe.
