Dmitry Medvedev: â€œOfficials need to use their minds at timesâ€

Russian PM Dmitry Medvedev wrote this on his Facebook page, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.

“Officials who hold responsibility for the development of this area need to use their minds at times, and must not release statements about the closure of social networks”, said Maxim Ksenzov, the deputy head of Russia’s federal telecommunications watchdog, while commenting on the probability of the closure of the Twitter social network.

Maxim Ksenzov said the primary reason for this is that the Twitter leadership refuses to fulfill Russian officials’ demands and to delete illegal posts of users.

According to Ksenzov, Twitter is a serious source of social threat to the Russian citizens.

He also noted that a new law will come into force in Russia from August 1. According to that law, authors (bloggers) whose materials are read by more than 3,000 people will have to undergo state registration.
