Baku. Malahat Najafova – APA. The demographic situation in Armenia has reached a critical point, said Armenian demographer Ruben Yeganyan, the Armenian newspaper Yerkramas reported.

He noted that the birth rate in Armenia has decreased.

“The problem is not related only to the social situation. Few people born in the hard 90s years in Armenia are at reproductive age. Although older people are married, as they missed reproductive level, the population does not grow,” said the demographer.

According to him, the biggest problem is migration.

“No progress has yet been achieved in the migration sphere. The annual negative balance of passenger traffic is 40,000, which makes 1-1.5% of the Armenian population”, Yeganyan said.

The expert added that though administrative measures lead to a short-term improvement of the demographic situation, it’s not effective for a long time.
