Armenian website director arrested for blackmailing MP

Baku. Turbat Baghirova – APA. Director of the Armenian website analitik.am Ani Ovanisyan has been arrested for demanding money from MP Tigran Urikhanyan, Chairman of Armenia’s Alliance Party, through blackmailing.

On May 2, the MP had informed police of the website publishing false articles about him, his family and his parliamentary activities, according to news.am.

The MP said he has met with the website’s director, who demanded of him monthly payment of 300 drams in return of not publishing any further articles.

Then the website’s director met with the MP’s representative and the former two agreed to pay the amount to the director or to his assistant on the 5th of every month. On May 3, the director’s assistant, the MP and the media club’s director were detained at a café. Later on, the website’s director was detained too.

The investigation is ongoing.
