Armenian Prime Minister: “Turkey is not ready to establish diplomatic relations with Armenia”

He said that a few proposals had been developed that envisage compromise of both sides in the process of negotiations within the OSCE Minsk Group: “Turkey is not ready to establish diplomatic relations with Armenia. It unambiguously supports Azerbaijan’s position, can’t be impartial.”

Answering the question “Could Turkey be loyal, if Armenia didn’t perpetuate the memory of the “armenian genocide” victims?” the Prime Minister said that it was initiated not by the Armenian government, but by the Armenian Church.

Sargsyan noted that Armenia is a secular state: “Turkey also presents itself as a secular state. So, I think that such decisions of the church shouldn’t affect the establishment of diplomatic relations. It is impossible to find the two neighboring countries in the world having no conflicts. We need to look to the future without forgetting the lessons of the past for the establishment of normal relations. Turkey is not ready yet to demonstrate political will in this process. On the other hand, today Turkey is supporting Azerbaijan basing on one nation, two states principle.”
