APA reports quoting RIA Novosti that the president, who is reportedly in Kharkiv, didn’t attend the congress.
The participants said they take responsibility for ensuring constitutional order in Ukraine. They cast doubt upon the legitimacy and voluntariness of decisions which have recently been taken by the Verkhovna Rada.
Deputy head of the ruling Party of Regions Oleg Tsarev called the Kiev unrests “armed seizure of power”. Evgeny Zhilin called on the local authorities to set up militias and arm them.
Yanukovych supporters and opponents are holding protests in Kharkiv. The police have set up cordon.
