Moscow. Farid Akbarov – APA. Incessant heavy rain since Sunday evening has crippled normal life in the Russian capital.
The heavy downpour that has been falling for 18 hours has caused difficulty in traffic movement on the roads of Moscow, APA’s Moscow correspondent reported.
A number of cars are underwater. Rescuers have evacuated 80 people who were stranded inside cars and buses.
Note that this is the heaviest rainfall since 1879. On 13 August 2003, another long-lasting rainfall had been witnessed.
Moscow’s meteorological bureau says the rainwater is 48mm high, which renews the record of 130 year ago when rainwater had reached 25.2mm.
The ongoing downpour in Moscow is expected to continue until tomorrow evening.
