Leonid Slutskiy, Chairman of the International Affairs Committee of the Russian State Duma and leader of the Liberal Democratic Party of Russia (LDPR), was denied a US visa, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.
Slutskiy was the only member of the Russian delegation unable to obtain a visa to participate in the UN General Assembly.
“I am the only member of the five-person delegation led by the foreign minister who, for the third year in a row, has not been granted a US visa,” Slutskiy said.
The MP noted that although Joe Biden no longer leads the country, the US State Department “continues to act on the same basis.”
The anniversary session of the UN General Assembly opened on September 9, with the high-level week scheduled from September 23 to 29. The Russian delegation includes Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Slutskiy, Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin, Chairman of the Federation Council’s International Affairs Committee Grigory Karasin, and Russia’s Permanent Representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.
