In Russia’s Smolensk region, 18 fuel tank cars and a locomotive derailed after colliding with a truck, APA’s Moscow bureau reports citing the Baza Telegram channel.
The accident occurred early in the morning between the Rudnya and Golinka stations, sparking a fire. According to preliminary information, the truck entered the crossing ahead of the train, making the collision unavoidable. Emergency braking caused the locomotive and the fuel tank cars to leave the tracks, igniting the blaze.
The locomotive engineer and assistant were hospitalized with moderate injuries. Train traffic in the area has been suspended while firefighters work at the scene.
