"There is no real alternative to the CIS in the Eurasian region now," said Director of the First Department of Russian Foreign Ministry on CIS countries Mikhail Evdokimov in his interview with RIA Novosti, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.

"We can say with certainty that there is not an alternative to the CIS in the Eurasian region in terms of difference of mutual activity fields and number of participations," stressed the Russian Diplomat.

He has reminded that namely CIS has been a basis for the establishment of new, more developed integration unions in the post-Soviet region - CSTO, Eurasian Economic Union, Union State of Russia, and Belarus: "In the existing difficult geopolitical and economic situation, in the situation of the emergence of the traditional and new challenges and threats, CIS remains as being the main dialogue platform and platform for the development of advanced integration associations among the former Soviet republics. Joint development shows that such a model is really successful. The CIS has passed a long way in the 30 years that it existed, not only has become a popular platform for political dialogue but has also significantly expanded its scope of practical activities. Close contacts are protected and kept within the framework of the CIS. More than 630 international agreements have been adopted, 568 of them are in force".
