The Sverdlovsk Regional Court reviewed the appeal against the detention order of Mutvali Shikhlinski, the son of the head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg, APA’s Russian bureau reports.

The regional court upheld the decision of the first-instance court.

On September 8, 2025, the Verkh-Isetsky District Court of Yekaterinburg extended the detention of Mutvali Shakhin oglu Shikhlinski. The preliminary investigation accuses him of committing a crime under Part 2 of Article 318 of the Russian Criminal Code.

Although Shikhlinski’s lawyer filed an appeal with the Sverdlovsk Regional Court, it was unsuccessful. The appellate court found no grounds to satisfy the appeal.

Note that the first-instance court ruled that M. Shikhlinski will remain in detention until December 14, 2025.

Recall that M. Shikhlinski’s arrest was triggered by an incident near “Baku Plaza” on July 1. Operatives of the Federal Security Service (FSB), dressed in unmarked clothing and vehicles, confronted Shahin Shikhlinski, head of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Yekaterinburg, while he was in a car driven by his son. During the incident, Mutvali Shikhlinski lost control and struck an FSB officer with the vehicle he was driving. In court, he expressed regret over what happened and stated that the incident was not intentional.
