Simonyan says Yerevan seeks ties with Russia despite CSTO concerns

Armenia still has questions regarding the CSTO, said Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan during a meeting in Moscow with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, APA’s Moscow bureau reports.

According to him, Armenia still has unanswered questions that have been raised repeatedly.

Simonyan said that Armenia is interested in relations with Russia, and Yerevan has no other understanding.

The Speaker stressed that Armenia is not trying to act against Russia, that there is no such understanding in Yerevan, and there never will be: “I do not want such an understanding to exist here, in Russia. I want to assure you that we have no such understanding, and never will. This would be wrong for everything, for all that we already have.”

Lavrov, for his part, stated that membership in the European Union is incompatible with membership in the Eurasian Economic Union, but that Russia would respect Armenia’s choice.
