"The Institute of Experimental Medicine in Saint Petersburg (Russia) has announced the creation of the world’s first edible vaccine against the coronavirus, which – they anticipate – will have a taste similar to that of ‘Riazhenka’, a kind of very common fermented milk yogurt," said Alexander Suvorov, head of the department of molecular microbiology and the molecular genetics laboratory of pathogens at the same institute, APA's correspondent in Moscow reports.

"We have created four variants of vaccine candidates so far. We do hope that clinical trials will be started in the coming future," stressed a Russian scientist.

Alexander Dmitriev, director of the institute said that relevant research have being conducted in the institute since January of 2020.

According to him, the edible COVID vaccine has several competitive advantages: "One of them is that this drug is quite easy to take. Besides, production of such a drug does not require serious financial expenditures for use of special cleaning technologies and production of the drug in series."
