The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) has thwarted an attempt by opposition forces directed from abroad to disrupt the elections, said Lenar Gabdrakhmanov, head of the MIA's Main Directorate for Public Order, APA reports, citing TASS.
According to him, opposition groups abroad had called on their few supporters to gather simultaneously at polling stations at 12:00 p.m. today.
Their aim, he said, was to create queues near the entrances and ballot boxes, film these scenes, and spread them on social media with claims that “the government cannot organize elections.”
Gabdrakhmanov emphasized that preventive measures ensured all such attempts were stopped.
