Russian Foreign Ministry warned Finland on Thursday that its accession to NATO "will cause serious damage" to its relations with Russia, as well as the security of northern Europe, APA reports citing Tele Trader.

"Russia will be forced to take retaliatory steps, both of a military-technical and other nature, in order to stop the threats to its national security that arise in this regard," the ministry stated.

The ministry claimed that the alliance's goal is "to continue expanding towards the borders of Russia, to create another flank for a military threat to our country." Moscow also accused Finland of a "radical change" in its foreign policy and of "direct violation of the international legal obligations" set out in treaties obliging it to refrain from threatening Russia.
