More and more countries see the long-term accelerated development opportunities in the peaceful use of nuclear energy, said Russian President Vladimir Putin in his speech at the Global Nuclear Forum, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
According to him, there is the greatest demand in the world for nuclear power plants designed by Russia.
Putin called ensuring the nuclear safety of nuclear facilities an absolute priority for the Russian Federation: "Russia strictly fulfills all its nuclear obligations, regardless of the political situation. Nuclear regulation should be such that a balance is maintained between the development of peaceful nuclear energy and strengthening the non-proliferation regime."
Putin added that Russia is working on new peaceful nuclear energy technologies: "Russia will soon begin mass production of both land-based and floating nuclear power plants."
Putin also noted that Russia will launch a fully closed-cycle nuclear power reactor in the Tomsk region in 2030.
