Russia reaffirms its commitment to the full and timely construction of Kazakhstan's first nuclear power plant, said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov at the conclusion of talks with Kazakh Foreign Minister Yermek Kosherbayev, APA's Moscow bureau reports.

During the meeting, Lavrov also informed his Kazakh counterpart about the developments around Ukraine: "We highly appreciate the understanding of our principled position by our Kazakh friends and, above all, the fact that Western countries have understood the impossibility of a sustainable settlement without eliminating the root causes of this conflict, in which for many years Western countries have been trying to use Ukraine as a springboard to undermine the legitimate security interests of the Russian Federation."

Lavrov stressed that Russia and Kazakhstan are discussing the technical, financial and legal parameters of the construction of a nuclear power plant in the republic.

According to him, the need for joint work in the Caspian region was noted during the talks.
