Russia has proposed to Azerbaijan, Iran and Kazakhstan to hold a naval exercise of the Caspian littoral states in 2026 to ensure the security of shipping and maritime economic facilities, APA's Moscow correspondent reports, citing the Russian Ministry of Defense.

It was noted that a meeting and negotiations were held in St. Petersburg between the commanders of the Russian, Azerbaijani, Iranian and Kazakh Naval Forces. The delegation of the Russian Naval Forces was headed by Admiral Alexandr Moiseyev, Commander-in-Chief of the Fleet.

"The Russian side proposed to the participants of the meeting that in 2026 a multilateral naval exercise be held by the naval forces of the Caspian littoral states aimed at the practical implementation of the security of shipping and maritime economic facilities. The exercise also envisages the practice of cooperation in search and rescue operations in the Caspian Sea," the Russian Ministry of Defense said.

It was also noted that during the negotiations, the Russian side proposed to resume the work of naval expert groups in preparation for the signing of a five-party memorandum of understanding and cooperation in the military-naval sphere in the Caspian Sea.
