Moscow is closely monitoring the situation in Armenia amid the arrest of opposition politicians, including the head of the “Tashir” group of companies, Samvel Karapetyan, and the mayor of Gyumri, said the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, APA reports, citing Armenia Today.
According to her, what is happening is an internal matter of Armenia.
Zakharova noted that earlier, criminal cases had also been initiated against the heads of the Berd, Goris, and Vanadzor communities.
The Foreign Ministry official expressed hope that these processes would not lead to a decrease in confidence in the judicial system.
The diplomat added that the situation is becoming particularly sensitive against the backdrop of preparations for the parliamentary elections scheduled for June 2026.
