Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali (pictured in the middle) stated on Thursday that Iran is currently thinking of joining Russia's Financial Message Transfer System (SPFS) in order to bypass the Society for Worldwide Interbank Financial Telecommunication (SWIFT), APA reports citing RIA Novosti.
"We are making efforts in this direction [connecting Iranian banks to the SPFS]," asserted Jalali, adding that Russia and Iran are considering unifying their financial messaging systems.
Russian banks have been excluded from the SWIFT system earlier this month. Russia has been trying to find alternative payment links after being blocked from the SWIFT financial network.
