Russia appoints Vasily Osmakov as new Deputy Minister of Defense

Andrey Belousov, the Russian Minister of Defense, has appointed a new deputy, APA’s Moscow bureau.

Vasily Osmakov, former First Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, has been appointed as the new Deputy Minister of Defense.

As a result, the total number of Deputy Defense Ministers has reached 11.

Osmakov graduated in 2005 from the Institute of Asian and African Studies at Moscow State University, majoring in Oriental Studies, African Studies, and Arabic Translation. In 2008, he completed postgraduate studies at the State University of Management. From 2004 to 2008, he worked at the Ministry of Industry and Energy of the Russian Federation. Between 2008 and 2012, he served as assistant and adviser to the Minister of Industry and Trade. From 2016 to 2021, he was Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade, and from 2021 to 2025, he served as First Deputy Minister of the same ministry.
