More than 87% of migrant children applying to study in Russian schools have not been able to register, APA’s Moscow bureau reports, citing Rosobrnadzor.

It was noted that documents were submitted for 23,616 children with foreign citizenship between April and August. At the same time, a complete set of documents was submitted for only 8,223 children who were sent to the exam.

5,940 children took the test, of whom 2,964 passed successfully.

Note that the admission process for migrant children to secondary schools in Russia has been made more difficult. Children of foreigners are admitted to schools after their knowledge of the Russian language is checked. In Russia, this is associated with a shortage of space in schools.

It is reported that, in general, labor migrants may be prohibited from bringing their families to Russia. A draft law on this has already been submitted to the State Duma. The draft was prepared by Sergey Mironov, head of the “A Just Russia – For Truth” faction, and MPs Oleg Nilov, Yana Lantratova, Andrey Kuznetsov, and Mikhail Delyagin.

They propose exemptions for Belarusian citizens and highly qualified foreign specialists.

The authors of the initiative believe that migrant families place an excessive burden on social infrastructure (schools, hospitals), and this burden is not compensated by the income obtained from patents (official permits to engage in labor activities - ed.).

The MPs believe that if the draft law is approved, the flow of migrants to the Russian Federation could decrease by 15-20%.
