Russia's Novaya Gazeta newspaper has announced its closure after 30 years of operation, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
The statement was published on the newspaper's website.
"On November 9, we will turn off the lights in the building where we have spent 30 years, shut down the servers and leave. The newspaper no longer exists," the statement said.
The decision is related to the newspaper's editorial office being forced to vacate its building on Potapovsky Lane in central Moscow. The need to leave the building was announced in a letter from Editor-in-Chief Sergey Sokolov.
According to him, journalists were given little time to relocate, and a new building has not yet been found. At the same time, the newspaper's reader donation collection system has also been shut down.
It should be noted that the first issue of Novaya Gazeta was published on April 1, 1993. In 2022, the newspaper suspended its print publication following two warnings from Roskomnadzor. In September 2026, the Ministry of Justice added Novaya Gazeta to the foreign agents register.
