Ukraine gas imports down in 1st quarter

Baku-APA. Ukraine's natural gas imports fell 17.3 percent in the first quarter of 2013, according to official figures released Monday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The report also said that gas consumption dropped 9.6 percent in the same period while gas transit via Ukrainian pipelines fell 17.1 percent year-on-year.

Ukraine imported around 7.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas in January-March 2013, down from 9.176 billion in the same period a year ago, the Coal and Energy Ministry said in a statement.

In the first quarter of 2013, the country's gas consumption fell 2.19 billion cubic meters to 20.725 billion year-on-year, the statement said.

Natural gas transit via Ukraine to Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States fell by 4.198 billion cubic meters year-on-year to 20.289 billion during the recording period, it said.
