A powerful earthquake struck the Caspian Sea, with the strongest tremors felt by residents of Dagestan and neighboring regions, according to Russian social media channels, APA reports.
The earthquake occurred around 23:30. Tremors were felt by residents of Makhachkala, Derbent, Kaspiysk and Khasavyurt, as well as in Chechnya, Astrakhan, Pyatigorsk, Kislovodsk, Aktau.
According to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre, the epicenter was located in the Caspian Sea, 28 km east of Izberbash, at a depth of 10 km.
At least one thousand residents of Makhachkala went outside fearing aftershocks, SHOT channel reported.
There have been no reports of damage or casualties so far. Local authorities and rescue services are checking the situation.
