About half of Russia’s oil refineries have been hit by drones and missiles, APA’s Moscow bureau reports, citing The Economist.
The publication states that Ukraine continues to damage Russia’s energy infrastructure, and the pace of these attacks is rapidly increasing. The attacks could soon become a daily occurrence.
At the end of August, Reuters reported that approximately 17% of Russia’s oil refining capacity was temporarily out of service. It has been noted that this figure is now undoubtedly higher.
Some unconfirmed reports indicate that up to 40% of oil refineries have been damaged. According to the research group Energy Aspects, this means a loss of more than 1 million barrels per day.
Benedict George from the analytical company Argus Media says that Ukraine has hit 16 out of Russia’s 38 oil refineries. He believes that although repairs are possible, when refineries are subjected to repeated attacks, the damage becomes irreparable. According to him, some of Russia’s oil refineries have been hit up to three times.
