Leningrad Street in Yerevan has been renamed in honor of the famous American philanthropist and Armenian-born Kirk Kerkorian, APA reports, citing City Council.
The statement says that this decision was made due to the fact that the street is perceived as a symbol of the Soviet era.
Kirk Kerkorian has gained great respect from the Armenian diaspora as a world-renowned patriotic philanthropist.
Samvel Hakobyan, a representative of the opposition "Mother Armenia" faction, said that despite the name change, Yerevan residents will still continue to call it "Leningradyan" (Leningrad Street).
