Kyrgyzstan arrests ex-president Atambayev’s son and others over alleged plot to incite mass unrest

In Kyrgyzstan, the son of former President Atambayev and his associates have been arrested on charges of preparing to organize mass riots, APA reports, citing the country’s Ministry of Internal Affairs.

According to the information, 10 people have been detained on this charge.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs stated that the detainees were charged with preparing to organize mass riots. According to the investigation, “the detainees planned to hold rallies across the country after the announcement of the election results, first in the southern region, and then in Bishkek and districts, aiming to create widespread discontent. Their plan included unconstitutional calls, as well as the seizure of administrative buildings, television channels, law enforcement facilities, weapons, and penitentiary system institutions.”

It was noted that during searches, law enforcement authorities discovered and confiscated “weapons, ammunition, grenades, communication devices, financing documents, activity plans, narcotics, as well as cash in the amount of 150,000 dollars.”
