An investigation has been launched into the "Georgian University" following an appeal by David Gurgenidze, the rector of the Georgian Technical University (GTU), APA’s local bureau reports, citing the Prosecutor General’s Office of Georgia.
The investigation concerns the alleged illegal appropriation of property belonging to GTU, reportedly carried out through the abuse of official powers.
In his appeal, Gurgenidze stated that real estate owned and used by GTU — including land plots, adjacent buildings, and sports grounds — had been illegally privatized.
The investigation is being conducted by the Anti-Corruption Department of the Georgian Prosecutor General’s Office.
Note that the Georgian University belongs to Giuli Alasania, the mother of former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili. Established in 2004, the university is one of Georgia’s largest private higher education institutions. Its campus is located near GTU’s main complex in Tbilisi.
