The Georgian permanent delegation will not participate in the next sessions of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (PA), said the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament Shalva Papuashvili, APA's local bureau reports.
The speaker noted that some members of the European Parliament, known for their hostile, unfair and politically biased attitude towards Georgia, made additions to the texts of the resolutions adopted at the last plenary session of the Euronest PA that are completely unacceptable for Georgian society.
"One of the resolutions called the parliamentary elections of October 26, 2024 "false" and the government elected by the people "self-proclaimed". Also, those who attacked police officers and state institutions and were convicted by the court were called "political prisoners", thereby ignoring the essence of the rule of law," the statement said.
Papuashvili believes that the European Parliament has turned the Euronest platform into a tool of blackmail against neighboring countries and a means of forcing its narrow political agenda:
“Georgia has always made a constructive, productive and significant contribution to the Eastern Partnership initiative. If the European Parliament creates appropriate conditions for a constructive dialogue, the Permanent Delegation of the Georgian Parliament will be ready to restore the participation of the Eastern Partnership in this parliamentary platform.”
It should be noted that the last 12th plenary session of the Euronest PA was held in Yerevan on October 28-30. The Georgian and Azerbaijani delegations did not attend the meeting.
