Due to attacks on Russia’s “Orenburg” gas processing plant by UAVs, the supply of Kazakh gas to the energy facility has been temporarily suspended; there is no gas shortage in the domestic market, said Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Astana reports.

According to the minister, the only current facility for processing gas extracted from the Karachaganak field is the Orenburg plant, where Kazakhstan’s approximately 9 billion cubic meters of gas are processed annually: “Currently, Karachaganak gas is not being transported to the ‘Orenburg’ plant. The daily supply of about 800,000 cubic meters of gas has stopped. This has a certain economic impact, as part of the export is effectively not taking place.”

However, the minister noted that there are no problems with gas or heat supply in Kazakhstan’s domestic market: “This issue will not affect the domestic market. Additional gas supply instruments are planned, and there is no risk to the operation of heating facilities. I officially state: the drone attacks have no impact on gas supply.”

The minister also added that alternative processing options for Karachaganak gas do not exist within the country. Therefore, work is currently underway by “KazMunayGaz” on the construction of a new gas processing plant near Karachaganak: “Currently, work is being carried out to align the technical parameters of the new plant with the existing infrastructure. A decision has been made; this project will be implemented by ‘KazMunayGaz’ using its own resources.”

The minister noted that the gas supply situation in Kazakhstan’s western regions, including Aktobe, Mangystau, and West Kazakhstan provinces, is stable: “There is a two-day reserve of compressed liquefied gas in Aktobe province. It should also be understood that natural gas and compressed liquefied gas are used in different directions: one for heating and energy, the other for the transport sector.”

Akkenzhenov also added that the relevant negotiations regarding the drone attacks are conducted not by the Ministry of Energy of Kazakhstan but by other competent authorities. This particularly concerns issues related to Ukraine.

It should be noted that some time ago, the gas processing plant in the Orenburg region was subjected to a UAV attack.
