The State Duma has adopted a resolution proposing retaliatory measures for the European Union in the event of the seizure of Russian assets, APA's Moscow bureau reports.
It is proposed to file a lawsuit against Euroclear and Belgium, where the bulk of illegally frozen funds are stored, for compensation, including the seizure of assets.
It was noted that the assets of non-residents from countries that are not friendly to Russia can also be used as a source of compensation.
The State Duma's appeal to the Chairman of the Russian Government, Mikhail Mishustin, stated that the seizure of Russian assets would be perceived as a violation of Russia's sovereign rights.
The appeal emphasized that such illegal actions would lead to a loss of trust in Western institutions. This would also affect the EU's image as the jurisdiction and issuer of one of its reserve currencies.
