The Constitutional Courtof Uzbekistan approved the draft of a new edition of the Basic Law of Uzbekistan, APA reports citing AKI Press.
"The draft of the new version of the Constitution fully complies with the current Constitution, all other laws of Uzbekistan and international documents," Chairman of the Constitutional Court Mirzo-Ulugbek Abdusalomov said.
The Legislative Chamber of the Parliament of Uzbekistan adopted a new version of the draft law on the Constitution of Uzbekistan on 10 March. It must be approved by the senators now at a meeting on March 14.
The Constitutional Court also reported that they did not find any circumstances preventing the holding of a referendum on the draft constitutional law. The referendum is scheduled for April 30.
President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced the constitutional reform at the inauguration ceremony on November 6, 2021. Amendments are planned to be made to 65% of the articles of the country's Basic Law. 27 new articles will be added, thereby increasing their number from 128 to 155. The number of norms will be increased from 275 to 434.
