Armenia's consul in Austria, Ashken Aleksanyan, was detained at the airport after returning to Armenia, APA reports, citing Hraparak.
The publication writes that the consul was detained on suspicion of espionage in favor of Azerbaijan.
Several documents were found on him, after which the Armenian National Security Service searched the building of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, checking computers and documents.
It is reported that the incident took place several months ago, but it was decided to keep the consul's arrest secret because it could cause a major scandal.
