I do not recognize the legitimacy of Catholicos Garegin II and consider the structure he leads illegitimate, said Speaker of the Armenian Parliament Alen Simonyan at a briefing for journalists, APA reports.
"Who is the Catholicos? I do not know such a person. This person has violated his oath," Simonyan said.
Responding to a question about the removal of priest Aram Asatryan from the priesthood by Echmiadzin and his loss of the right to conduct liturgies on behalf of the Armenian Church, Simonyan called the structure illegitimate: "This is an illegitimate structure. Garegin Nersisyan (Garegin II) should understand that, as he said, 'they are coming to our homes,' let him not take this matter to the extreme... He will leave anyway," he added.
