Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan congratulated his party colleague Argishti Mehakyan on his victory in the local elections held in Vagharshapat (Echmiadzin), APA reports, citing Armenian media.
According to the report, Pashinyan said that by making this choice, the residents of Vagharshapat gave a significant impetus to the process of liberating the holy place of Armenians, Echmiadzin, from Ktrich Nersisyan (Armenian Catholicos Garegin II).
In addition, Nikol Pashinyan congratulated the members of the ruling party "Citizens' Contract" and all citizens of the Republic of Armenia on the "magnificent start of the 2026 general elections."
Note that the brother of Catholicos Garegin II, Gevork, and his nephew Ambartsum Nersisyan were arrested on charges of obstructing the election campaign in Vagharshapat.
