Karen Karapetyan had informed me that Serzh Sargsyan would resign, said Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan during a briefing while revealing new details about the events that took place during the 2018 revolution, APA reports, citing Armenian media.

He stated that former Prime Minister Karen Karapetyan met with him at that time on the instructions of Serzh Sargsyan and said that the authorities were ready to release him and stop the movement.

Pashinyan noted that during the conversation, he was not offered the position of Deputy Prime Minister: “First of all, I want to say that there were no talks with me about the post of Deputy Prime Minister. I would not even allow such a topic to be discussed. I completely deny the existence of any document proving the opposite,” Pashinyan emphasized.

According to him, Karen Karapetyan “indirectly, but without saying it openly,” made a proposal to stop the movement and release him.

“I replied that this is unacceptable to me. Serzh Sargsyan must go,” Pashinyan said.

He added that Karapetyan later returned several times, offering different options.

“He said that Serzh Sargsyan would resign after the Francophonie Summit. I said ‘no.’ Then he proposed June — again, I said ‘no.’ I said that he must go today. After that, he came for the third time and said that Serzh Sargsyan had agreed to leave. That was the entirety of our conversation,” Pashinyan noted.
