The Armenian parliament, at an extraordinary session, adopted a draft declaration “On the Establishment of Peace Between Armenia and Azerbaijan,” APA reports, citing the Armenian media.
The declaration, prepared by the ruling "Civil Contract" faction, includes the main theses reflected in the documents signed on August 8 this year in Washington by the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, and the USA.
With this declaration, the parliament calls on the public of Armenia and Azerbaijan, as well as political, expert, and cultural circles, to refrain from discourse and actions that reignite the conflict.
The draft declaration was presented at the extraordinary session of the parliament by Ayk Kondjoryan, the head of the ruling party’s faction. He stated that on August 8, Azerbaijan and Armenia initialed the peace declaration.
“The Civil Contract faction believes that the parliament must officially confirm this fact, support the restored peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan by adopting the declaration, and call on all interested parties to strengthen and develop this peace,” he said.
Note that opposition MPs did not participate in the vote and left the hall.
