The Armenian government is presently analyzing the effects of reopening the border with Türkiye, according to RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, APA reports, citing Arka.am.

"At this juncture, we are examining the economic implications of reopening the Armenian-Turkish border on trade volume, including which goods may be imported and which may be exported, among other considerations. There is an understanding of the situation, and there is work ahead, but this is also a learning process for us," he remarked during the parliamentary discussions regarding the 2026 draft state budget.

Based on Papoyan's projections, the trade volume between Armenia and Türkiye could potentially increase to $700-800 million annually (in contrast to $336 million in 2024). He further mentioned that Armenia could procure items such as pharmaceuticals, electrical appliances, and raw materials for domestic production from Türkiye at more competitive prices, in addition to exporting local goods there.

"Nevertheless, our most significant advantage is that Armenia will gain access to Turkish ports, particularly those located on the Mediterranean. This necessitates, on one hand, the most efficient and direct route via the Margara checkpoint, and on the other hand, routes through Georgia and other nations," the minister concluded.
