In Armenia, a court has extended Archbishop Bagrat Galstanyan’s detention period by another three months, APA reports, citing Armenian media.

Note that Galstanyan, who is accused of “preparing a terrorist act and attempting to seize power,” had his detention extended for three months back in August.

Prime Minister Pashinyan has sharply intensified his attacks against the church since May of this year, posting critical comments about church leaders on social media and proposing that the election of the Catholicos be placed under state control.

Following this, several high-ranking clergymen in Armenia — including Archbishops Bagrat Galstanyan and Mikael Ajapahyan, as well as businessman Samvel Karapetyan, who supported the church — were arrested. They are accused of calling for the overthrow of the government.
