In Armenia, payment with Russia’s “Mir” cards and QR codes will be allowed again, said Lusine Gevorkyan, head of Armenia’s Tourism Committee, at a press conference, APA reports, citing Interfax.

“Currently, our banking system is being adapted to the Russian Federation’s payment system, ‘Mir’ cards, and the possibility of payment via QR codes,” she said.

Gevorkyan noted that from the beginning of 2025 until now, two million tourists have visited Armenia, with one-third of them being Russian citizens.

Following the outbreak of war in Ukraine, most banks in Armenia had suspended operations with “Mir” cards since spring 2024 due to sanctions risks. Since then, Russian payment cards could only be used to withdraw cash via VTB ATMs. The Armenian government now aims to restore these payment methods to facilitate tourists’ convenience.
