Turkish Defense Ministry: No military ammunition on plane that crashed in Georgia-UPDATED

There were no military munitions on board the C-130 military cargo plane that crashed in Georgia, APA’s Türkiye bureau reports, citing the Ministry of National Defense of Türkiye.

The Ministry stated that the crew on the aircraft were members of the technical maintenance team of the F-16s that had traveled to Azerbaijan in connection with Victory Day.

The Ministry of National Defense of Türkiye stated that the C-130 military cargo plane that crashed last made contact with Tbilisi at 13:50: “On November 11, the C-130E aircraft numbered 68-1609, belonging to the 12th Air Transport Main Base Command of the Air Force, took off from Kayseri at 09:02 to transport personnel and materials to Ganja. It took off again at 13:15 to deliver technical maintenance materials for the F-16s conducting flights in Azerbaijan as part of the Victory Day events. Communication with Tbilisi was last established at 13:50, after which contact was lost.”

The Ministry stated that the cause of the plane crash is not yet known:

“The aircraft crashed for reasons that are not yet known, south of Tbilisi, near the Azerbaijan–Georgia border.”

There was no ammunition on the C-130 military transport plane that crashed in Georgia, the Turkish Ministry of National Defense said in a statement, APA’s Türkiye bureau reports.

The Ministry announced that the crew on board the plane was part of the technical service team for F-16 jets delivered to Azerbaijan in connection with Victory Day.

Recall that on November 11, a Turkish C-130 military transport plane en route from Azerbaijan to Türkiye crashed in Georgian territory. All 20 soldiers on board lost their lives.

The remains of all 20 soldiers have been recovered. The bodies will be transported to Türkiye by an A-400M aircraft, which carried the search and rescue and crash response teams to Georgia.
