SCO Plus can become a platform for dialogue and cooperation among states that play an important role in shaping the future international order, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian said during his speech at the SCO Plus meeting, APA’s correspondent dispatched to Bishkek reports.
The Iranian President said that the SCO Plus format has broad geographical coverage and significant political and economic potential.
According to him, the distribution of political, economic, and technological power in the world is changing, and an increasing number of states are seeking to play an important role in international decision-making: “The new realities of the international system no longer fully correspond to the structures formed in previous decades. The main issue is how this process of transformation is managed.”
Masoud Pezeshkian noted that Iran does not consider it appropriate for a multipolar world order to be shaped by replacing one center of power with another.
“A multipolar world can lead to a just order only if it is based on effective multilateralism, the sovereign equality of states, and the rule of law,” the Iranian President emphasized.
He said that, amid the changing balance of power, the UN should not be regarded as an institution belonging only to a certain historical period that should be abandoned.
According to Pezeshkian, the UN should become an organization that more fully reflects the realities of the new world and more effectively fulfills its core mission of maintaining international peace and security, preventing wars, and resolving disputes peacefully.
