The U.S. is rushing to replace a Thaad radar in Jordan that was damaged in an Iranian-backed drone strike, according to a U.S. official, APA reports, citing The Wall Street Journal.
The radar is a critical component of the ground-based missile-defense system, which intercepts ballistic missiles above the atmosphere.
Iran has been targeting air-defense infrastructure across the region in retaliation for the U.S. and Israeli attacks, including in Jordan and the U.A.E., according to satellite imagery, analysts and two U.S. officials. The U.S. and its partners in the region use a network of Thaads, Patriots and other air-defense systems to shoot down missiles, drones and rockets fired by Iran and its proxy groups.
