A Tejas light combat aircraft (LCA Mk-1) of the Indian Air Force crashed during the Dubai Airshow on Friday, killing the pilot, the Indian Air Force confirmed on Friday, APA reports, citing hindustantimes.com.
Images circulating on social media showed the indigenous fighter jet hitting the ground and erupting into a fireball. The fate of the pilot remains unknown. The incident comes at a time when the IAF is preparing to induct an advanced variant of the aircraft, the LCA Mk-1A.
“An IAF Tejas aircraft met with an accident during an aerial display at Dubai Air Show, today. The pilot sustained fatal injuries in the accident. IAF deeply regrets the loss of life and stands firmly with the bereaved family in this time of grief,” the IAF said in a tweet, adding that a court of inquiry is being constituted to ascertain the cause.
