Virus death toll rises in China

Beijing -APA. The death toll from the spread of EV71 virus in China rose to 26, and most of dead were children younger than 6, according to APA. The virus has spread in almost all regions of the country, particularly in the areas of dense population and has already infected nearly 12,000 people. Health officials warned the people about epidemic threat and said it will reach the peak in June-July. EV71 was eradicated in many developed countries in the mid of last century. The virus damages intestinal system, lung and brain. The last dangerous epidemic in China spread in 1998 when 129 thousand children were infected and 78 of them died.
