Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he asked U.S. President Donald Trump during their meeting in Washington to provide Ukraine with Patriot air defense interceptors as part of an emergency "winter package," Zelenskyy told in an interview with Axios.
According to Zelenskyy, Ukraine plans to build a stockpile of 300 interceptors for its air defense systems before the start of winter.
Zelenskyy noted that Ukraine's stockpiles of Patriot interceptors have been almost depleted, and without them the country cannot effectively defend itself against ballistic missile attacks.
The president stressed that this was precisely why Ukraine had been unable to fully repel Russia's recent ballistic missile strikes on Kyiv.
