US urges Iran to release Mousavi and Karroubi

APA reports quoting Radiferda, the statement says the world community is concerned that these persons were arrested after protesting against the results of Iranian presidential elections in 2009, their families faced pressure, Iranian government is urged to release these “prisoners of conscience”.

 

The statement also says Iran’s constitution, laws and international commitments guarantee fair judgment of the detainees.

 

The U.S. State Department called on the Iranian government to fulfil the commitments and release all “prisoners of conscience”.

 

German government and Amnesty International have demanded Iran to release these persons.

 

Iranian opposition leaders Mir Hossein Mousavi, his wife Zahra Rahnavard were under house arrest. Mehdi Karroubi was held in one of the jails under the Iran’s Ministry of Information, Security and Intelligence. Karroubi has been recently transferred to his house in Chamran settlement of Tehran and security guards were deployed on the first floor of this house. He was allowed watching only local TV channels. He is banned from watching satellite TV channels, using internet and phone. Iran's Prosecutor General Gulamhusein Mohsuni Ejei told journalists that Mousavi and Karroubi will not be released until they repent.
