“This president came into office in 2008, his first meaningful action was the signing executive order closing Guantanamo and today it’s in the worst position in my opinion and it was even back in 2008,” Tighe Barry from CODEPINK told Press TV on Thursday.

“We are realizing that there are individuals who are being tortured force-feeding,” he added.

In an article published on Thursday, Medea Benjamin explained how she interrupted Obama’s speech last year to discuss the Guantanamo closure and drone strikes.

“A year ago, on May 23, 2013, I was in the audience at the National Defense University when President Barack Obama gave his major foreign policy address. Having worked for years trying to close the Guantanamo prison and stop US drone attacks, I was crushed to realize that the president’s speech was ending and he had not announced any significant change of course on either policy. My heart was pounding with fear—it’s not an easy thing to interrupt a president, but I decided to speak up,” Benjamin wrote.

Barry also praised his colleague for standing up against the US president.

“She will stand up to this president and any other president that violates the international law and the laws of our nation and she will always speak up for human rights and justice. She was very brave and she continues to be a brave individual,” he said.
