UN Security Council elects 5 new non-permanent members

Elected in one round of secret balloting, they will replace Azerbaijan, Guatemala, Morocco, Pakistan and Togo, whose terms will conclude at the end of this year.

 

The UN Security Council has 15 members. China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom and the United States are permanent members. 10 non-permanent members are elected by the General Assembly for two-year terms. 5 of them are replaced every year.
